Please note the later start time compared to 2017. However – please aim to arrive as early as possible to anticipate parking delays and registration queries.
On site parking is available for around 400 cars. There are no other major events planned that day but please be aware that entrance to the venue is via narrow residential streets and in 2017 there was quite a bit of congestion. Plan ahead and aim to arrive as early as possible. We highly advise public transport or car sharing where possible.
The nearest train station is Gorton train station which is a 15 minute walk away.
Food and refreshments
There will be a cafeteria service running at the event serving a range of sandwiches, salads, drinks and snacks for a reasonable price.
There will also be a burger van and an ice cream van operating outside.
We are expecting upwards of 400 children and at least as many parents to be attending so the event is extremely busy. The main waiting area is the hall downstairs which will also host a bookstall and the Fine Designs Stall. However this will not cater for everyone. There are other areas available upstairs.
All of this will be signed on the day.
Parents / guardians are responsible for their children outside of the playing halls. During the game players are not allowed in the playing hall and we ask parents to not wait outside the main playing hall as this would become extremely congested.
It is important therefore that you arrange a meeting point with your child so that after their game they know where to find you.
We are setting up a “child meeting room” in the unlikely event that you become separated from your child. This will be located on the 2nd floor (same floor as playing hall).
Health and safety
There will be health and safety representatives on site.
Members of the organising team will be clearly identifiable by coloured t-shirts and name badges. Please feel free to approach any of the team with questions and they will be happy to help. The majority of our staff are volunteers working hard to make the day as enjoyable and stress free as possible and we appreciate your help in helping us with that aim.

Fine Designs will be running a merchandise stall at the venue where you can purchase branded clothing such as hoodies and t-shirts which are fully customisable. These items have always been extremely popular with the children.
These will be published as soon as possible before the start of the next round. Please do not enter the playing hall until you know your opponent and board number. The easiest way to view pairings will be on chess-results.com – more information will be provided on the day.
Pairings will also be published and posted in the main waiting areas (though not in individual classrooms).
