Northern Junior Open 2018

The Northern Junior Open 2018 is a 5 round event being ran alongside the Northern Challenger’s. All juniors (born after 1/9/1999) are welcome to play EXCEPT those who have qualified for the Challengers event (we expect those juniors to play in the Challengers) !

The final round (round 5) will begin approximately 4pm.

Please aim to arrive as early as possible to anticipate parking delays and registration queries.

Parking

There are around 70 dedicated spots available at the venue. After this it is first come first serve with other users of the school. There is plenty of parking nearby also.

Public Transport

The nearest train station is Broad Green which is approximately a 20 minute walk to the venue.

Food and refreshments

There will be hot and cold drinks plus light refreshments available at the venue.

Safeguarding

Parents / guardians are responsible for their children outside of the playing halls. During the game parents are not allowed in the playing hall. Please arrange a meeting point with your child so that after their game they know where to find you.

Health and safety

Members of the organising team are qualified first aiders.

Staff

Members of the organising team will be clearly identifiable as they will be wearing lanyards. Please feel free to approach any of the team with questions and they will be happy to help. Our staff are volunteers working hard to make the day as enjoyable and stress free as possible and we appreciate your help in helping us with that aim.

Pairings

These will be published as soon as possible before the start of the next round. Please do not enter the playing hall until you know your opponent and board number. The easiest way to view pairings will be on chess-results.com – more information will be provided on the day.

Disputes

Unfortunately, we do get the odd dispute – particularly amongst the younger children. For 2018 we have published a disputes policy and code of conduct which we encourage you to read here
