Organising a School Stage

UKSCC provides a Chess Challenge ‘kit’ containing everything you need to facilitate your school’s competition – apart from the chess pieces and boards. The most important element of the school stage of the UKSCC is to introduce children to chess and the fun of taking part in a chess competition. We realise there are some schools with a strong chess tradition and others who are tentatively adding chess to their activities. This means that there are no hard and fast rules for the Schools’ Stage of the UKSCC. There is no obligation to use chess clocks, or to run a ‘Swiss’ style system. We want to avoid putting barriers in the way of your school taking part in the UKSCC. This means flexibility for schools taking part and encouragement from the UKSCC team. We have a supportive online forum for school teachers to discuss hints and tips on chess in primary school.
