Please note the later start time compared to 2017. However – please aim to arrive as early as possible to anticipate parking delays and registration queries.
On site parking is available for around 80 cars. After this the organisers are opening up the field at the back of the school (as in 2017). The field provides plenty of parking but if the weather is bad this may be unavailable. We would therefore urge if at all possible for people to utilize local transport and car sharing options.
The venue is about 10 minutes walking distance from either Twickenham or St. Margaret’s Stations, and short bus journey or a walk of twenty-five minutes from Richmond Station. Buses stop directly outside the school, with a frequent service.
Food and refreshments
There will be a cafeteria service running at the event. An example menu with prices can be found here
There will also be a burger van and an ice cream van operating outside.
The venue is within 5 minutes walk to various shops, restaurants and bars in Twickenham.
We are expecting upwards of 600 children and at least as many parents to be attending so the event is extremely busy. We have more classrooms available than last year and these will be allocated to certain age groups.
There is plenty of outside seating areas which are ideal if the weather is pleasant.
Parents / guardians are responsible for their children outside of the playing halls. During the game players are not allowed in the playing hall and we ask parents to not wait inside the main foyer of the Attenborough building as this would become extremely congested.
It is important therefore that you arrange a meeting point with your child so that after their game they know where to find you.
We are setting up a “child meeting room” in the Attenborough building in the unlikely event that you become separated from your child.
Health and safety
There will be health and safety representatives on site and this will be well sign posted on the day.
Members of the organising team will be clearly identifiable by coloured t-shirts and name badges. Please feel free to approach any of the team with questions and they will be happy to help. Our staff are volunteers working hard to make the day as enjoyable and stress free as possible and we appreciate your help in helping us with that aim.

Fine Designs will be running a merchandise stall at the venue where you can purchase branded clothing such as hoodies and t-shirts which are fully customisable. These items have always been extremely popular with the children.
These will be published as soon as possible before the start of the next round. Please do not enter the playing hall until you know your opponent and board number. The easiest way to view pairings will be on chess-results.com – more information will be provided on the day.
Pairings will also be published and posted outside the Attenborough building.
