The London Chess Classic has established itself as one of the most important tournaments on the international calendar.

Apart from the main event (which saw a great triumph for Hikaru Nakamura) the Classic offers a rich and varied festival of events, including tournaments, training days and numerous junior activities.

The 6th London Chess Conference proved to be a particular highlight this year. John Foley was in charge once again and together with his trusty team he put together an extraordinary programme of guest speakers under the theme of The Future of Chess in Education.

Sarah and Alex Longson were there on the second of the two days to deliver a presentation on the Delancey UK Chess Challenge. This was part of a special section on large-scale school chess events and provided a very interesting contrast to the events from other countries.

The exchange of information led to a fascinating debate regrading the differences and advantages of the respective approaches to creating and maintaining large-scale events.

The conference was organised by John Foley and Chess Plus in conjunction with Chess in Schools and Communities.
